Difference between Swiss Type Cnc Lathe and traditional lathe?

1. Headstock. Whereas CNC lathes have a fixed headstock with the bar clamped in a collet or collet that will extend into the machine's housing or be supported at one end with a tailstock, the Swiss automatic lathe has a movable headstock. 

2. Guide bush. In CNC turning, the workpiece is stabilized in the collet of the spindle, which is not suitable for long parts due to the deflection of the material, while in Swiss automatic lathe machining, the collet holding the material can follow the headstock behind the guide rail With sliding bushings, the tool can operate near the guide bushing, a configuration that prevents deflection and achieves the required tolerances, no matter how long the workpiece is. 

3. Ability. CNC lathes typically have 3 or 4 axes and cannot machine turned parts in one cycle. Whereas modern Swiss turning machines have 5-axis control or more and can perform multiple operations in a single machining cycle. 

4. Cycle time. Swiss Type Lathe reduces cycle times, especially for complex parts. 

5. Coolant. In CNC turning, water is often used as a coolant, while in Swiss Type Lathe machining, oil is used. 

6. Programming. The offset programming of Swiss screw machines is the opposite of CNC lathes. In order to turn longer lengths or drill deeper holes, the Z axis on a Swiss screw machine requires a "positive" offset, while a conventional lathe requires a "negative" offset.
