How does Swiss automatic lathe work?

ALSC385

Swiss Type Lathe Unlike conventional lathes, the Swiss Turning Center has a moving headstock. During turning operations, the workpiece is clamped to a chuck or collet in the headstock and directed towards the machining area by means of guide bushings. The headstock moves along the z-axis with the bar, and the bar is positioned radially. The turning tools are carried on the ganged slides and are always in very close contact with the material. The movement of the spindle and the supply of the guide bush provide continuous feed.

With traditional CNC lathes, one or both ends of the part are firmly clamped and can only be rotated in a fixed position, so the machine can only perform one operation at a time, while with the Swiss turning machine, the workpiece can be turned and turned. Move back and forth along the Z axis to perform multiple operations at once. The bar is fed through the guide bush, the tool is mounted on the surface of the bush, so the force is exactly where the material comes out of the bush, minimizing the effect of tool force on the part and then ensuring greater accuracy. In addition, the Swiss turning machine can not only manufacture turned parts, it is also suitable for producing complex profiles without turning the surface.
